Looking to adopt a cat? Then you may be in luck because MSPCA-Angell is hosting a “Home for the Holidays” fee-waived adoptathon event on Saturday, Dec. 4, and Sunday, Dec. 5 at locations in Boston, Methuen, Cape Cod and at the Northeast Animal Shelter.

The event is dedicated to helping cats whose age, medical needs, personalities or habits have made it difficult for them to find a home.

“Calling All Super Heroes: our homeless cats need YOU! Seeking Wonder Women and Super Men to open their hearts to the elderly, the shy, the feisty and the overlooked!” the animal nonprofit wrote.

Jessica, a 6-year-old cat, is one of the many felines who are up for adoption this weekend.

“Jessica is not a huge fan of living in the adoption center. The hustle and bustle of adoption center life is a bit stressful for her, but she is sweet and affectionate in quiet moments and loves getting treats and pets. She is currently living at our Cape location in Centerville,” MSPCA wrote on Facebook.

Advance registration is required for the Fee-Waived Adoptathon. The event is free, but there are limited spaces each day, so MSPCA recommends people register soon. They also cannot guarantee that specific cats will be available since adoptions are going on all weekend.

The nonprofit made a list of items to do before registering. Among these are the how-to adopt page and the adoption search page, which shows some of the cats who will be available this weekend.

MSPCA also recommended people prepare to bring their new pet home on the same day. They offer food, toys, carriers and more at their adoption center if needed. Masks and social distancing are still required to visit MSPCA, regardless of vaccination status.

Last, MSPCA warned people that there may be a wait. They expect a lot of interest in the available cats, so guests could spend from 1-2 hours during their visit.

The adoptathon was made possible by Catvocates and private donors who have subsidized the adoption fees. More information on the event may be found online.
