    UPDATE: Man pleads not guilty in animal cruelty case, banned from animal contact

    UPDATE: (9/3/21 11:23 A.M.) – Timothy Lorraine has plead not guilty during his arraignment Friday morning. According to the Pulaski County Court, Lorraine was also assigned a public defender. His bond has been set at $2,500 at 10%. The reasoning for this was a pre-trial risk assessment indicated he is a low and moderate risk to reoffend or fail to appear. The judge issued that Lorraine is prevented from being in contact with any animals or reptiles. The Department of Fish and Wildlife and Animal Control will monitor his compliance. His pre-trial conference is set for Sept. 15 at 11

    Charges dropped in felony animal cruelty case for Jacksonville groomer

    Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee announced Thursday morning that the felony animal cruelty charge related to a Jacksonville groomer at Animal House has been dropped. Cherry Derr, 36, was arrested on Aug. 13 and charged after an initial investigation with Onslow County Animal Services claimed a 7-year-old Border Collie mix named Curry, owned by Emilee and Kevin Hanks, died in her care.  “This office has taken this investigation seriously, as we do any crime, including those involving animal cruelty. As a prosecutor, I have an ethical duty not to proceed with prosecution when there is insufficient evidence to support

    Basile Police Officer arrested for animal cruelty

    Update: Daniel Crum, a Basile Police Officer, and resident of Eunice, was arrested today on a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animal(s), according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. Eunice police made the arrest today after a report that neighbors located Crum’s injured dog, Lola, as she was dumped on side of the road. “She was dumped to the street, and he quit feeding the dog, as the dog was living under neighbors carports and in their gardens for over a month begging for food,” a source close to the neighbors told KATC. Neighbors found the dog and opened up

    Pit bull rescued in Socorro amid calls for increased punishment in animal cruelty cases

    EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Another extreme case of animal abuse has made its way through the Borderland, causing the community to call for saving good dogs from bad people. Pawsitive Rescuers rescued Roxy, a pit bull mix, and her 10-day old puppies on July 28. She was found at her owner’s home in Socorro chained in the front yard. An anonymous call was made to Karen Washington of Pawsitive Rescuers that reported Roxy and another dog chained in the backyard. The second dog was not on the property when Roxy and her puppies were recovered. Roxy’s is

    Parma woman faces animal cruelty charges after dog dies while locked in hot car for hours

    PARMA, Ohio — A woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges after calling police and telling them her dog had been locked inside her car overnight, only for responders to arrive and find the dog dead, according to the Parma Police Department. On June 10, around 2:45 p.m, a woman called police seeking help getting into her car because her dog was locked inside of it. On that date, temperatures in Parma reached a high of 81 degrees by 11:58 a.m. “My dog is locked in my car and I don’t have a spare key,” the woman told the dispatcher.

    Gov. Abbott called ‘dog-hater’ after vetoing animal cruelty bill

    HARLINGEN, Texas (KVEO) — Governor Abbott vetoed a multitude of bills on June 21, including one that was geared towards protecting dogs. Senate Bill 474, the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act, was aimed to set clear standards for outlawing poor treatment of dogs. According to the bill’s author, Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., the bill would have required a dog to have adequate shelter, an area to avoid standing water, shade from direct sunlight, and drinkable water.     Ex-wife of MLK assassin arrested in Tennessee on animal cruelty charges

    JACKSON, Tenn. (WKRN) — The ex-wife of James Earl Ray, the man convicted of assassinating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was arrested in Tennessee following a horrific animal hoarding case. Anna Sandhu Ray, 74, was booked into the Madison County jail Monday afternoon on 44 counts of animal cruelty.     Colorado Supreme Court Rejects Animal Cruelty Initiative That Farmers And Ranchers Opposed

    The Colorado Supreme Court on Monday rejected a ballot initiative that would have extended the state’s animal cruelty laws to cover livestock and poultry. But proponents of the change still have time to try again. Currently, the state’s animal cruelty law has an exception for animals raised on farms and ranches, as long as their owners follow “accepted animal husbandry practices.”  The people behind the initiative, Alexander Sage and Brent Johannes, wanted to ask voters to change that law. Their proposal would have added cows, pigs, chicken and other farmed animals to the law, which was written to cover dogs
