    Buford’s Cat Rangers Rescue home sold, looking for new location

    They’ve had as many as 72 cats and all of them have their own chair or bed to relax in. BUFORD, Ga. — A local rescue that helps hundreds of cats find homes each year says their home is in jeopardy now that they’re being forced to leave. What’s known locally as “The Cat House” in historic Buford is run by the nonprofit Cat Rangers. They house up to 72 cats inside the home and they all have made it their own.  Kaitlyn Ross reports that home was just sold.  There are 58 cats here at the Cat Rangers Rescue

    Rapper DDm celebrates animal rescue and Black pet owners in ‘That’s My Dog’

    Watching the new video “That’s My Dog” by Baltimore rapper Dapper Dan Midas — or DDm for short — is a joyful experience. While DDm cradles an adorable Chihuahua to lyrics like “He’s always eating good, ‘cause I treat him like a king,” an audience of mostly Black animal lovers sings and dances along to celebrate the bond they share with their pups. “I’m a pet owner, I’m very sensitive and very much an advocate for pet care and pet wellness and just pet owners all around,” DDm told TODAY. “But I didn’t want to make a song about pet

    Feline fans needed: 2 Alle-Kiski cat rescue groups seeking volunteers

    Calling all cat lovers. Two local groups dedicated to helping homeless and feral felines are in need of additional helpers. Cat Crusaders of Leechburg and Homeless Cat Management Team of Tarentum both work to feed, house and tend to cats in need — with a primary focus on providing low-cost, high-volume spay and neutering services. Both organizations are hoping to recruit more volunteers to handle the increasing influx of cats requiring medical care and spay/neuter services. Last year, the Homeless Cat Management Team spayed and neutered 1,600 cats at their clinics, held every other Saturday at 207 Allegheny St. Sponsors

    Rostraver animal rescue fire leaves about 12 cats dead

    About a dozen cats are dead after a fire at an animal rescue facility in Rostraver Township Friday morning. Westmoreland County dispatch says calls came in at around 3:45 Friday morning. Police arriving at the scene stated there was one person inside the structure, but they were able to get out safely.The fire along the 4500 block of Route 51 in Rostraver Township has left Wendi Kraemer, of Angels Journey Home, searching for a new place to house the animals in her care. Kraemer says she was able to rescue or release a number of animals from the burning building;

    Nonprofit Saved by Zade helps rescue cats lost in Kentucky tornadoes

    Several volunteers from a Lansing area nonprofit traveled to Kentucky to deliver supplies and help families ravished by deadly tornadoes that hit the state in December.  Jodi Schrader, the founder of cat rescue Saved by Zade, and volunteer TK Willow left Dec. 20 and spent the week before Christmas reuniting animals with families who had lost everything.  “It’s awful to see how destroyed everything was,” Schrader said. “If you haven’t seen something like that before, it really puts things into perspective. … It’s the things nightmares are made of.”  They spent most of their time in the southwestern part of

    Hempfield-based rescue group foots medical bills to promote senior dog adoptions

    Bones takes arthritis medication twice a day to relieve pain in his legs, while Bruce relies on pills to help control his seizures. Those ongoing medical problems didn’t prevent respective owners Makayla Losteter and Jessica Sullenberger from welcoming the older dogs into their homes, but a program recently introduced by the local Cross Your Paws Rescue organization made their commitments to the aging pets less of a financial challenge. “A lot of people love older dogs, but they just can’t afford the bills that come with them,” said Lisa Duffy of Hempfield, founder of the nonprofit rescue group. She said
